For parents: using a gift card
How to redeem a gift card you received, apply it to tuition or other purchases, and check the remaining balance.
Updated June 4, 2026
If someone bought you a gift card to your school, here is how to use it.
Where to enter the code
- Sign in to your school's parent portal.
- Tap Gift cards in the menu.
- Tap Add a gift card.
- Type in the code (or paste from the email).
- Tap Apply.
The balance is added to your account. The portal confirms how much was loaded.
Using it for tuition
After the gift card is on your account, your next tuition charge will use the gift card balance first, then any remaining amount goes to your card on file.
You do not need to do anything to make this happen. It is automatic. The email receipt after the charge shows how much came from the gift card and how much came from your card.
Using it at the front desk
If you are at the school and want to use the gift card for an in-person purchase (a uniform, a class drop-in, an event registration), tell the front desk you have a gift card on your account. They will apply it at checkout.
Using it for events
When you register for a special event (a seminar, a party, a tournament), the gift card balance shows up as an option on the payment screen. Tick the box to apply it.
Checking your balance
Open Gift cards in the portal at any time. You will see:
- Each gift card you have redeemed.
- The original amount.
- How much has been used.
- The remaining balance.
- The expiration date (if any).
What if a gift card has the wrong amount
Sometimes a gift card was bought for one amount but shows a different balance on your account. Usually this is because part of it was already used. If that does not explain it, contact the school. They can see the full history of every gift card.
Sharing across a household
A gift card you redeem is tied to your household. If you have multiple kids at the school, the balance can be applied to any of their charges. You do not need to split it.
When a gift card expires
Most schools do not expire gift cards (state laws around expiration are strict). If yours has an expiration date, your portal will warn you 30 days ahead so you can use it.
Giving a gift card
Want to buy one for a friend or for your own kid? Head to your school's gift card page at {your-slug}.getrosterra.com/gift-cards. Pick an amount, enter the recipient's email, pay, and they get a code immediately.
What if you cannot find the code
If you received the gift card by email and lost it, ask the buyer to forward it again. If the buyer cannot find it either, ask the school. They can look up the gift card by the buyer's name and issue you a fresh code.
What if a gift card was bought elsewhere
Rosterra gift cards only work at the school that issued them. A gift card from one school will not work at another, even if both use Rosterra. The codes are unique to each school.
