For parents: how to update your card on file
Step by step for parents who need to change the credit card their school charges for tuition.
Updated June 4, 2026
If you got a new card, your old one expired, or you just want to switch to a different one, here is how to update it.
From a phone or computer
- Open your school's parent portal. The link is in the welcome email your school sent when you signed up. It usually looks like
yourschool.getrosterra.com/portal. - Sign in with your email and password. Forgot your password? Tap Forgot password to get a reset link.
- From the menu, tap Billing.
- Find Payment methods and tap Update.
- You will be sent to a secure page hosted by Stripe (the payment processor). Enter your new card number, expiration, and CVC.
- Tap Save.
That is it. Your next tuition charge will use the new card.
From the mobile app
The flow is almost identical. Open the app, sign in, tap your profile picture, then Payment methods. The rest is the same.
What to expect after you update
- You do not need to wait for the next charge to confirm. The system runs a 1-cent test charge in the background and refunds it immediately. If something is wrong with the card, you will know within seconds.
- If your previous card had a tuition charge that failed, the next retry will use the new card. You do not have to do anything to trigger the retry; it happens automatically the next day.
- You will get a confirmation email when the update is saved.
Common questions
My card got declined and I cannot get past the update screen. Most likely your bank flagged the test charge as suspicious because it is from a new merchant. Open your banking app and look for a "did you authorize this?" notification. Approve it and try again.
The form does not load. You might be using an outdated browser, or your network is blocking Stripe. Try a different browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) or a different network.
I do not see Billing in the menu. You might not be the guardian on file. Only the primary guardian sees billing. If your spouse signed up, ask them to update it. (Or contact the school to add you as a co-guardian.)
Can I have two cards on file? Yes. After saving a new card, do not delete the old one. The most recently saved card is used for tuition. The other is available for one-off purchases.
Where is my card actually stored? At Stripe, not at your school or Rosterra. Stripe is a PCI Level 1 certified processor. Your school never sees your full card number.
