For parents: how to cancel a membership
How to cancel your child's membership cleanly: what to expect, refunds, and when the cancellation takes effect.
Updated June 4, 2026
Memberships in most schools can be canceled at any time. Whether you are moving, taking a break, or stopping for any other reason, here is how it works.
What happens when you cancel
- Your child remains a member through the end of the current paid period. So if you paid for the month and cancel on the 5th, the membership runs until the end of the month.
- No further charges are made after that.
- You can still access the parent portal for 30 days to download receipts, see attendance history, and pay anything you still owe.
- Past attendance and rank progression are preserved permanently. If you re-enroll later, the records pick up where they left off.
Two paths
Most schools let you cancel from the parent portal:
- Sign in to your school's parent portal.
- Tap Memberships.
- Tap the membership you want to cancel.
- Tap Cancel at the bottom.
- Confirm.
Some schools require a conversation with the front desk before canceling. In that case, the portal shows you a message saying so, with the school's contact info.
Refunds
If you paid for the month and cancel partway through, your school's refund policy decides whether you get a partial refund. Most schools do not refund the rest of the month (you still get the classes until month-end). Some schools refund prorated, especially if you are canceling because of a move.
This is set by your school, not by Rosterra. Check the membership cancellation page for the specific policy at your school.
Pausing instead of canceling
If you only want a break (summer vacation, injury, moving for a few months), pause instead of canceling. Pausing keeps your rank, attendance history, and spot in the class without charging you.
- Tap Memberships.
- Tap Pause instead of cancel.
- Pick the date you want to resume.
When the resume date arrives, the membership restarts automatically. You can extend or end a pause at any time before the resume date.
What if you change your mind
Cancellations are not undoable on the parent side, but they are easy on the school side. Contact your school and ask them to reactivate the membership. They can do it in a few clicks.
How to leave on good terms
If your child is leaving for a real reason (moving, switching to a different activity, scheduling conflict), let your school know. They appreciate the heads-up and may be able to help, even if just with a referral to another school in your new area.
A short message like "We are moving to Austin next month, so this is our last week. Thank you for everything." goes a long way.
