When Stripe pays out and how to read your statements
How payout timing works in Stripe, what your statements look like, and how to reconcile against Rosterra.
Updated June 4, 2026
When Stripe processes a payment, the money does not land in your bank account the same day. There is a hold period, then a payout. Here is how to read it.
The payout cycle
By default, Stripe pays out every 2 business days for U.S. accounts on standard timelines. A charge on Monday lands in your bank around Wednesday or Thursday. A charge on Friday lands the following Tuesday.
You can change the schedule inside the Stripe dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com under Settings → Payouts. Options:
- Daily. Money lands every business day for prior days' charges. Highest cadence, smallest individual deposits.
- Weekly. Money lands once a week, on a day you pick.
- Monthly. Once a month, on a day you pick. Best for accounting simplicity.
Rosterra does not control this; it is a Stripe-only setting.
Why the hold
Stripe holds new money for a couple of days for two reasons:
- Risk. A few days lets disputes and refunds settle before money is committed.
- Float. A standard part of how card processing works.
New Stripe accounts may have a longer initial hold (7 to 10 days) until Stripe has a few transactions to see your profile. This shortens as your account ages.
Reading the bank deposit
When a payout lands, your bank statement shows a single deposit labeled something like "STRIPE 5T29N1Q4 PAYOUT". The amount is net of all charges, refunds, fees, and disputes in that batch.
To see what makes up a payout:
- Open the payout in your Stripe dashboard.
- Click Itemized breakdown.
- Stripe shows every charge, refund, and fee that rolled into this payout.
Reconciling against Rosterra
Rosterra and Stripe should match because they are looking at the same payments. To reconcile:
- Open
/reports/revenuefor the month. - Compare the total Stripe payment column with your Stripe dashboard's gross volume for the same period.
The numbers should match exactly. If they do not, the most common reasons are:
- Timezone. Rosterra reports in your school's timezone; Stripe defaults to UTC. Change either to match the other.
- A late refund. A refund in Rosterra applied to a prior month's charge. The refund shows in Stripe's current month but Rosterra's prior month. Reconcile by including the refund where Rosterra puts it.
Stripe fees
Stripe takes its fee from each charge before it pays you. Your monthly Stripe fee bill is not a separate invoice; it is just smaller payouts. Rosterra's revenue report shows both the gross amount families paid and the net amount you received.
Multi-day payout delays
Occasionally a payout is held longer than usual. Reasons:
- A dispute is open on a recent transaction.
- Stripe flagged a charge for fraud review.
- Bank holiday.
- You changed your bank account.
The Stripe dashboard always shows the reason. Reach out to Stripe support for anything that takes more than 5 business days.
