For parents: first time signing in

A walkthrough for parents who just enrolled and need to set up their parent portal account.

Updated June 4, 2026

When you enroll your child in a school using Rosterra, you get a welcome email. Here is what to do with it.

The welcome email

Check your inbox (and your spam folder) for an email from the school. Subject is usually something like "Welcome to {school name}" with a button labeled Set up your account or Sign in.

If you cannot find the email:

  • Check spam.
  • Check the Promotions tab if you use Gmail.
  • Search your inbox for the school's name.
  • Ask the school to resend it.

Setting your password

Tap Set up your account in the email. You will land on a page asking for a password. Pick something:

  • At least 8 characters.
  • Mix of letters and numbers.
  • Different from passwords you use for banking or work email.

Save it in your phone's password manager (iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, 1Password, etc.) so you do not have to remember it.

Confirming your account

After saving the password, you land on your dashboard. Look at the top: it should show your name and your child's name.

If something is wrong (your name is wrong, your child's name has a typo, the wrong school is shown), do not panic. Click into your profile, edit what you can, or message the school to fix what you cannot.

Adding your card

If your school takes tuition through Rosterra (most do), the dashboard prompts you to add a card. Tap Add card.

You will be sent to a secure Stripe-hosted page. Enter your card details:

  • Number.
  • Expiration.
  • CVC.
  • ZIP code.

Tap Save. The card is stored at Stripe, not at Rosterra or your school. The school never sees the full card number.

Downloading the mobile app

If your school has a mobile app (most do):

  • iPhone users: open the App Store and search for the school's name. Tap install.
  • Android users: open the Play Store and search for the school's name. Tap install.

Sign in with the same email and password you just set up. The app shows the same info as the portal, friendlier for everyday use.

If you cannot find the app, your school may use the shared Rosterra app instead. Search for "Rosterra" in the store, install, and pick your school the first time.

What to do next

  • Look at your schedule. Check that your child's classes are on it. If something is missing, contact the school.
  • Sign any pending waivers. The dashboard nudges you if you have one waiting.
  • Save the portal URL. Bookmark it in your browser or save the app icon to your home screen.
  • Turn on push notifications. When you open the mobile app the first time, it asks if it can send notifications. Say yes; this is how you get class reminders and important announcements.

What if you have more than one child

If you have multiple kids at the same school, all of them appear under your account. You do not need separate logins. Switch between kids with the dropdown at the top of the dashboard.

Common confusions

The school is not in the list. You probably have the wrong school. Confirm with whoever invited you what URL or app to use.

The link in the email expired. Welcome links expire after 7 days. Ask the school to resend.

You set a password but cannot sign in. Try the forgot-password flow at the sign-in page. If that does not work either, contact the school.

You see "Account already exists". You may have signed up at this school previously with the same email. Try the forgot-password flow.
