Running a tournament with Rosterra
How to set up a tournament with divisions, accept online registration, and run the day with brackets.

Tournaments are bigger than a normal event. Rosterra has a dedicated tournament engine for them, separate from the regular events page.
Creating a tournament
Go to /tournaments and click New tournament. Set:
- Name, host school, date, location.
- Public landing page slug.
- Open and close dates for registration.
This creates a public landing page at {your-slug}.getrosterra.com/tournaments/{name} where competitors register.
Setting up divisions
A division is a bucket like "Boys 8-9 Yellow Belt Sparring" or "Adult Open Forms." For each division:
- Name and discipline.
- Age range.
- Rank range (no rank, beginner only, intermediate plus, etc.).
- Gender, if applicable.
- Bracket format: single elimination, double elimination, round robin.
- Maximum competitor count.
A common tournament has 20 to 60 divisions. Build them up front and clone the ones that repeat across age groups.
Public registration
Competitors and their parents register at the public landing page. They:
- Pick the school they represent (yours, by default, but cross-school tournaments allow others).
- Add competitors. For each one, pick the divisions they want to enter.
- Pay the entry fee per competitor or per division.
You see registrations land in real time on the tournament dashboard.
Spectator passes
Most tournaments charge spectators too. Spectators buy passes from the same public page, no roster needed. Their pass arrives by email as a QR code that staff scan at the door.
The day of
On tournament day, every division gets a bracket auto-generated from its competitors. The bracket runs on tablets, phones, or a big screen. Judges enter scores directly on the bracket, and the next round populates automatically as match results come in.
Running on multiple mats at once
Mat assignments live on the run-day view. Drag a division to a mat and the bracket lights up for the judges and coaches assigned to that mat. The screen rotates through brackets so spectators in the gym can follow along.
After the tournament
A printable results page goes live as soon as the last bracket finishes. It is also linked from your school's parent portal for participating families. Medals are awarded in your school's medal system if you use one.
